LIVING IN THE PAST

An exhibition of watercolour paintings on Heritage images

25 - 29 January 2020
Goa State Museum, Goa

The Heritage Village of Hasta Shilpa Trust at Manipal is a multi-dimensional cultural project. This heritage village aims at restoring and conserving our country's cultural wealth expressed in the form of traditional buildings and objects of art, crafts and other artefacts of aesthetic interest.

Mr Vijayanath Shenoy, who is the backbone of Hasta Shilpa Trust and Heritage Village was a bank employee. Every time an interesting piece of architecture is to be pulled down, he was there coaxing the owners to let it remain and move it to the Heritage Village. Over the last decade the Trust has relocated through the process of restoration as many as fifteen heritage structures of immense architectural merit and fine craftsmanship in its Heritage Village. All the physical properties like furniture, metal ware, utensils, ritual objects and other household that were used earlier have been displayed in their appropriate places in respective buildings. My initial attempt to create the recreated architectural, it is my experience of Heritage Village recalling the days of our history. I was awestruck by the gigantic structures, traditional buildings and artefacts that were moved from original place and restored here at Hasta Shilpa
